Learning a language is a lot like a diet. There are lots of methods out there, and some things work best for some people. Christian's grammar-centric approach is essentially the 'smaller portions/more exercise' approach. It's practical, it's tried and true, it isn't a quick fix: But most of all, it gets steady, solid results with time and effort. I studied with Christian for about four or five months before relocating to Berlin. Unlike popular learning institutes, Christian does not start with 'Mein Name ist...'. He starts with a book. A grammar text book. And you start by learning the parts of speech, word order, declensions and conjugation. Unlike schools though, you don't completely master one small rule before moving to the next when you learn with Christian. You get to 75%, and the rest you learn as you move on and see where that rule leads. I found that this approach was more time efficient and the information was more easily retained. Now that I am here in Germany, I wish I could import Christian. I have tried a variety of tutors and classes since we finished our lessons, and so far, no one compares. I have a lot of theoretical foundation, and as I am picking up vocabulary here, I am able to apply what I leaned and move a lot faster than other non-German speakers who have tried to learn by memorization. I am extremely happy I invested in learning with Christian and only regret not having studied more on my own to augment our classes. If you want some no-carb, cabbage soup diet version of language learning, there are options. But Christian is not one. He is where to go if you want to learn German and get great results the tried and true way. P.S. He's crazy reliable, very nice and very, very reasonably priced for what he offers.

I am a physician and corporate executive and I must say that Christian is an exceptional teacher. Having studied German as a teenager, I am seeking to relearn the language. He builds your vocabulary and pronunciation through the grammatical exercises and the approach is methodical, consistent and designed to make sure the skills stick. As well, he is a terrific person and I always look forward to the lessons. He has my unreserved and highest recommendation. Don't miss the opportunity to work with him.

Christian did German tutoring for my mom, who studied linguistics, but unfortunately now has Alzheimer's. The goal realistically wasn't to improve her German, but to keep her engaged and challenged. Christian was professional, reliable, and respectful. He was skilled and thoughtful in tailoring his materials and teaching styles to my mom's changing capabilities. Not many people could teach my mom something now without her feeling frustrated and stupid; I was very impressed. When a friend needed to speak a small amount of German in a speech she met with Christian once or twice and was very pleased.

Christian is a wonderful teacher. His lessons are methodical and straightforward -- he's a bit of a grammar nut, which is a good quality in a tutor. He insists that you read all exercises out loud in German, which is great because he is there to correct your pronunciation. I'd pick Christian over a group class at a German institute any day.

I've been taking German lessons from Christian on and off for about three years and have learned to be patient with myself, learning the German grammar. As Christian will tell you, one does not learn German without first having learned a little bit of grammar. Christian is a very patient teacher and tries to gear his lessons to help his students to achieve their goals. I can highly recommend Christian as a German teacher.

When I wanted to use some German in a speech, Christian translated and coached me in pronunciation, accent, emphasis, and rhythm. I completely enjoyed working with him in a language in which I'm a beginner, though my linguistics background helps me with languages. He was helpful, professional, and a pleasure to work with. I felt prepared for my talk, and received positive feedback for it from Germans who complimented my accent. I'm happy to recommend him!
